14h30 Gregory Jolivet

Gregory Jolivet débute la vielle en 1991 à l'E.N.M. de Bourges sous la direction de Laurent Bitaud. Par la suite, il obtient divers premiers prix (st Chartier 1996, Gannat 1997...), son D.E.M. en 1998 et enfin le D.E. de professeur de vielle à roue en 2004. Il est musicien professionnel depuis 2001.

Grégory créé une musique originale grâce à ses vielles à roue (deux alto « Mousnier » et une soprane « Kerboeuf »). Il parcourt l'Europe et le monde au sein de plusieurs formations (La Machine, Blowzabella, Rue Pascale, Alto trio, Marginal Concept..).

Il a enregistré et participé à plus d’une vingtaine d'albums depuis 1997. Cette année est marquée par l'arrivée de son premier CD solo "Alt’o Solo", mélange savoureux et haut en couleurs de compostions pour vielle alto acoustique!

Il enrichit aujourd’hui sa pratique de la vielle alto en développant plusieurs techniques « électro » (tapping à une ou deux mains pour se libérer de l’usage de la roue, utilisation d’effets, looper, human beat box et guitare lapsteel) pour composer une musique encore plus personnelle!

Toujours en quête de nouvelles sensations sonores, il compose depuis un an un nouveau répertoire qui donne naissance à "Oli Wheel", formation composée de Jean Laurent Cayzac (contrebasse, guitare, effets loops) et de Benoit Prisset (batterie, balafon). Une nouvelle création qui égrène ses notes aux confins du rock et de l’acoustique pour le plus grand bonheur de nos oreilles. Le groupe prépare un album pour l'année à venir....

19h Joris Van Vinckenroye met Basta!

BASta! is a one man band by double-bass player and composer Joris Vanvinckenroye.

About BASta! : “… He records himself while playing and in this way creates an orchestral sound in his own typical cinematic fusion style. Elements of classical music, rock, jazz and folk are combined to reach an organic whole…”.

Joris is also founder and composer of Aranis, a group from Antwerp that won several prices in the last couple of years (Jeugd en Muziek Prijs Chamber music, Klara Trofee for the most intriguing concert, Mano Mundo public award,…) On their list of records are two CDs, a single and a vinyl record, and a third CD is expected by fall 2009. The group gave concerts at home and abroad and already teamed up with various musicians, e.g. flute-player Toon Fret and ‘multimusician’ Jan Marmenout.
‘De Tijd’ described Aranis thus: “ In-between the finesse of classical music and the excitement of pop”.

Joris was also one of the founders and animators of Troissoeur, in which he played an important part as composer. Troissoeur often joined forces with various artists, e.g. Sandy Dillon, Daniel B and Satoshi Takeishi. They performed at home and abroad.

Not only can he pride himself on a lot of practical experience (he was double-bass player for the tango musicians of Lunfardo and travelled with the orchestra of Björk and Robby Lakatos), Joris also studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Antwerp.

He composed music for theatrical productions like “Oerd” - a production of ‘Het Paleis’, directed and played by An De Donder – and he often teaches classes in improvisation and musical creativity.

20h30 Snaarmaarwaar

Snaarmaarwaar is veruit de origineelste groep uit de nieuwe folklichting en geldt als één van de revelaties van 2008. Deze jonge honden attakeren met een aanstekelijke goesting zowel vaderlandse folkstuff als eigen composities – en dit alles enkel op snaarinstrumenten. Eens de gitaar, mandoline en mandola ingesnoerd zijn is het dan ook bijzonder moeilijk om dit drietal in te tomen. Hoewel de combinatie op het eerste zicht een beperking kan lijken, zetten de heren bij momenten een imposante klankmuur neer. In hun muziek hoor je echo’s van Portugese fado, Bluegrass, Ierse sessies en Italiaanse sferen. Hét geheim echter van Snaarmaarwaar zit hem in het moeiteloos samengaan van zachte lyriek en pompende energie. Stap in de klankwereld van deze snarentovenaars en laat je meevoeren naar een plek waar het fijn vertoeven is…

17h30 Trio Flaherty/De Jong/Masure

Het Trio Flaherty/De Jong/Masure staat garant voor een gezonde portie Ierse/Schotse gezelligheid! Drie ervaren muzikanten die elke keer opnieuw hun publiek verrassen met liederen, vrolijkheid en vloeiende melodieën. Het virtuoze spel van Siard De Jong op viool, mandoline en whistles, de gevoelige drijvende gitaar en cister van Philip Masure en de warmte in de stem van Helen Flaherty geven dit gezelschap een unieke klankkleur die menig toehoorder raakt. Uptempo nummers wisselen zich af met schitterende ballades, alles tot een uitgebalanceerd geheel verwevend. Helen Flaherty, Schotse van afkomst en vooral bekend als de zangeres van de Schots/Ierse groep Shantalla, zingt voornamelijk liederen uit haar thuisland. Zij toerde samen met de Dave Munnelly Band de ‘Irish Unplugged Tour’ door Denemarken en Nederland en trad op met Daithi Rua, Aidan Burke, Philip Masure en COMAS in bijna heel Europa. Ofschoon Philip Masure een hele rits aan instrumenten bespeelt is hij vooral bekend als gitarist bij onder meer Comas en Urban Trad. Hij is dé specialist van de open tuning en speelde samen met onder andere Orion, Laïs, Carlene Anglim, Mugar, Padraig Rynne en Garva. Philip geeft zowat overal in Europa workshops gitaar. ‘The Irish Post’ bestempelde hem ooit als één van de meest gezochte gitaristen van de Keltische muziekscene. Siard De Jong tenslotte, DE folk-violist uit Nederland, brengt opgewondenheid en diepte aan traditionele muziek. Als muzikant toerde hij met half Ierland en 3/4 van Nederland, waaronder Mike Hanrahan, Ronnie Drew, Sonny Condell, Keith Donald, Finbar Fury, Francie Conway, Sean Harkness, Chris Jones, Danny Guinan, Ailbe Grace, Extra Stout, Kieran Fahy, De Drie Tieten, Benny Jolink, Fling, Sara K,Fernando Lameirinhas, Rednexx, Ad Vanderveen, Allan Taylor en last but not least Within Temptation.

16h Stargazer

"You're on the edge of a windy Irish cliff and you wonder why the sky looks so yellow...is it because you drank too much whiskey or...hang on...am I in Ireland at all? Looking up at the pink sky you dont realize you are stepping over the edge of the cliff. You tumble down the rocks exceeding the speed of light. When you plunge into the water it appears to be surprisingly warm... You wake up and realize you're still in that smokey bar, dusty theatre or at that sunny festival...the first thing you hear is a fiddle joined by uilleann pipes surrounded by a whirlwind caused by two string instruments... There's a window in the roof and there's a distant star shining through. Listening to STARGAZER you'll know there's different planets out there where the sky has all colours of the rainbow..."

Stargazer consists of four musicians who prove that accoustic music can still groove like nothing else. In the music of Stargazer elements of musical traditions from different parts of the world (and other planets!) are brought together into unique arrangements and compositions.
